Nordtind
The new stern trawler Nordtind is a new design developed on the basis of the three trawlers in the GADUS series that VARD handed over to HAVFISK in 2013 and 2014. The contract for the new vessel was signed in February 2016, and is worth approx. NOK 325 million. The vessel has a length of 80.4 metres and a breadth of 16.7 metres.
The vessel is designed by Vard Design in Ålesund. The design process has emphasised safety, the environment, good seaworthiness, efficient and gentle handling of catches, and crew comfort. The ship complies with the Silent-F requirements for lowest possible underwater noise emission while searching for fish. It has a large on-board processing plant with a production and freezing capacity of more than 80 tonnes per day, and two separate cargo holds for refrigerating and freezing fish. The ship has also been developed for triple trawling and has four trawl winches for prawn fishing in the winter season. Its ice class hull allows Nordtind to operate near ice-covered areas.
